The passion of snowmobiling brought
300 participants together this weekend to the Ole Barn in Inlet,
New York. Participants traveled
from as far a way as Michigan to attend. But it was more than just
a snowmobile ride, the riders gathered to ride in honor and in
memory of those that we love. The snowmobile ride called the "Snow
Run" is an organized snowmobile ride featuring different rider
ability groups that are guided by trail leaders throughout the
gorgeous trails of Inlet and Olde Forge, New York.
Groups are divided into 10 to 12
people per group as it is a great way of meeting new friends
while keeping
their ride experience
personal. Groups are named from the "Speed Bumps" all
the way to what is called "Hooter Haulers".
The event weekend kicked off with a welcome party on Friday evening
with light food, live music and giveaways. A special presentation
of financial assistance was made by the Pink Ribbon Riders to a
local volunteer Breast Cancer support group on Friday evening.
The support groups meets once a week to lend support to each other
as they talk about their struggles but most important their accomplishments
as they kick the disease!
On Saturday morning 300 participants took to their snowmobiles
to ride in honor and in memory, some participants decorated their
buggies to provide even more spirit for the ride. Riders were treated
to a guest appearance from the Groomer from the Inlet Barnstormers
that also tricked out himself with ribbons and more!
The day went quick as more than 100 + miles were done by groups.
But they did take a break to be treated to lunch that was hosted
by the Snowmobile Club the Barnstormers. And after the riding was
done they returned at 5pm to the Ole Barn for a dinner awards banquet.
Awards for best decorated sled, best moment of the day and even
a pink tattoo contest was held. Each year a top fundraiser award
is presented to one special person that raised the most funds for
the cause, and this year Reata Patterson from the Watertown, NY
area won. The award and prize was sponsored by Camoplast Tracks
and Woodys Inc. Reata raised $6,058 for the cause. Reata was also
presented with a Pink Ribbon Riders unique snowflake pin.
A survivor assistance presentation was made at dinner to Jane
Cameron and Lisa Parker of $500 each. The assistance they received
is from the Pink Ribbon Riders Assistance Fund that is available
to anyone diagnosed in the USA that applies. Please see the website
www.pinkribbonriders.com for more information.
The event grand total is at $56,000 and still counting! A truly
amazing day as snowmobile riders came together through the love
and passion of snowmobiling to ride for a cause of people helping
people. A true grass roots effort came together on this day.
Pink Ribbon Riders would like to thank all of the volunteers that
committed their personal time and support through out the year
and this past weekend to make the 4th Annual New York Snow Run
a success.
